Insights on Lipomatosis after Platinum-Based Chemotherapy Use in Pediatric Oncology: A Case Report

Abstract: Agents of platinum-based chemotherapy, such as cisplatin or carboplatin, are used in the treatment of a wide range of malignancies that affect children, such as brain tumors, osteosarcoma, neuroblastoma, hepatoblastoma, and germ cell tumors (GCTs). The Cyclophosphamide Equivalent Dose (CED) calculator for reproductive risk does not take platinum-based chemotherapy into account, despite the fact that it accounts for the majority of chemotherapy medications that are typically administered for pediatric GCTs. “…There are several reports that demonstrate such an association as well as with obesity, which was also concordant in our case [2,10,15]. Boeriu E. et al reported generalized lipomatosis induced by chemotherapy with platinum agents in a 16-year-old girl treated for teratoma [16]. Given the fact that our patient was unaware of this problem until now and she lacked any previous imaging results that could describe it, we even thought about a possible reaction of the IAS in relation to the chemotherapy catheter.…”

“…This finding emphasizes the need for a holistic approach in treating hyperhidrosis, addressing both the physical symptoms and the broader psychological and social effects of the condition. Moreover, even though the current study addressed only the cases of primary hyperhidrosis, patients affected by secondary hyperhidrosis from various causes [17][18][19] might have a worsened quality of life that deserves medical attention.…”

“…Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a potentially blinding eye disorder [ 1 , 2 ] that primarily affects premature infants, particularly those born extremely premature, before 28 weeks gestation, or very premature, between 28 to 32 weeks of gestation [ 3 , 4 ]. It is characterized by the abnormal growth of blood vessels in the retina, which can lead to retinal detachment and, eventually, blindness if left untreated [ 5 , 6 , 7 ]. The prevalence of ROP has increased significantly in recent years due to the improved survival rates of premature infants, making it an important public health concern [ 8 ].…”
