“…This paper describes the use of an expert system for the systematic statistical characterization of the pathology, diagnosis and repair of 119 IGP coatings and the resulting important lessons that can be learned from this field study. The IGP inspection system used has been described in detail in another paper by the authors (Pereira et al 2010) and includes a classification of all the defects that can affect IGPs, together with their causes. This paper also presents a detailed statistical analysis of the results of the inspection programme, including the diagnosis methods used to characterize the defects and confirm their causes and the most appropriate repair solutions.…”

“…This methodology has thus been tested and implemented in various cladding systems/construction elements (Silvestre, de Brito 2009;Pereira et al 2011;Neto, de Brito 2011;Sá et al 2011). (Duarte 2011) Besides the proposed innovative expert-knowledge management system specifically tailored for ETICS in walls, this paper presents the statistical evaluation of the results of an inspection program of ETICS, that is unprecedented in the literature in terms of size of the sample analysed, scope of the analysis (pathology, diagnosis and rehabilitation) and systemic approach to data collection and analysis.…”

“…However, most research has examined the plasterwork as a support to determine its composition [10], looked at historical lime or gypsum mortars [1,[13][14][15][16][17][18], or studied the pathologies and interventions for gypsum finishing coats [19][20][21][22][23]. There are no specific methodologies documented, though, on the study of historic plasterwork microlayers.…”
