Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 mRNA Expression in the Uterus of Streptozotocin-treated Diabetic Mice

Abstract: Reproductive functions decline with the onset of diabetes in female mice. Diabetic mice have smaller uteri with an underdeveloped endometrium, suggesting diminished estrogen-induced growth. We aimed to clarify the changes in the estrous cycle and in insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) expression in the uteri of streptozotocin (STZ)-treated diabetic mice, because IGF1 is one of the main growth factors involved in estrogen-induced uterine growth. ICR female mice were intraperitoneally administered STZ (10 mg/100… Show more

“…Fasting blood glucose levels (BGLs) were assessed with a glucometer (Accu-Chek Active, Roche Diagnostics, Germany) two days after the injection of STZ. Rats were considered diabetic if the BGL was greater than 200 mg/dL [28]. Subsequently, all animals were maintained for 4 weeks on ad libitum food and water with checking of fasting blood glucose, average body weight, and food and water ingestion before the beginning of treatment with TQ [19].…”

“…Their study reveals that heterozygous CREBBP defect leads to raised effects of hormones like leptin and adiponectin, insulin resistance and preventing obesity. Manabe et al observe that the mRNA expression of CREBBP is reduced in the uteri of ovariectomized STZ-treated diabetic mice [ 42 ]. A recent literature report [ 43 ] shows that, compared with healthy conditions, the expressing of histone acetyltransferases CREBBP in latent autoimmune diabetes in adults patients is downregulated.…”

“…Two days after administering STZ, fasting blood glucose levels (BGLs) were measured with an Accu-Chek glucometer (Roche, Germany) using blood samples taken from the tip of the tail. DM was successfully induced in all rats, as indicated by high BGLs (i.e., BGL > 200 mg/L in all cases) [34].…”
