Show more

“…In Brazil, studies aimed at public policies included the DPSIR in the field of water resources. In the search for better water demand management strategies in the Apodi-Mossoró river basin (RN-Brazil), the DPSIR identified flaws in the demand service system by analyzing four allocation strategies and variations in the conditions required reservoirs [32]. The mapping and diagnosis with the DPSIR method of sub-basins, such as the Mampituba River in southern Brazil, showed the primary pressure generating activities.…”

“…It is also important to highlight that the water sustainability index (WSI) use the same base as PSR, DPSIR and other indicators, however, within the watershed territorial outline, as used in the researches of Chaves and Alipaz, (2007), Juwana et al (2012), Silva et al (2014), Araújo et al (2019), Ferreira et al (2020 and Rocha et al (2020). Maynard et al (2017) state that the water resources sustainability requires meeting the needs of multiple water uses, such as domestic use, irrigation, industrial use, recreation and power generation, in addition to the economic development, which depends, at the same time, on environmental protection actions and the improvement of social conditions.…”

“…Meeting the extensive water demands is a challenge to Brazil's semiarid region mainly due to population growth, economic development, the increase in the rate of urbanization in recent years and the diversity of weather conditions (Araújo et al, 2019). Barros et al (2016) state that semiarid regions, such as the one in which the Epitácio Pessoa Reservoir is located, in Paraíba, present precipitation with significant spatial and temporal irregularity in addition to a high evaporation rate.…”

“…In a hybrid approach, flow network modeling was associated with, among others, the FPEIR matrix (Araújo et al, 2019) for environmental diagnosis, with the construction of water management scenarios to evaluate water transfer capacities between basins (Shourian et al, 2017) and with multicriteria analysis for definitions of environmental preservation areas (Santos et al, 2019) and vulnerability status of water resource systems (Shabbir and Ahmad, 2016;Alamanos et al, 2018).…”
