Background and purpose Purpose. To improve the tactical interaction of players in 3x3 basketball at the stage of specialized basic training based on the use of specific improvisational exercises, taking into account the specifics of the players’ competitive activity. Material and methods Two groups of basketball players at the stage of specialized basic training, 12 athletes each, took part in the research, taking into account the lack of reliability of differences in the analysed indicators at the beginning of the study (р>0,05). All participants gave an informed consent to partake in this experiment. Descriptive statistics (arithmetic means in groups (M), mean square deviations (SD), errors of arithmetic means (m)) were calculated for each dependent variable. The Student's t-test was used to estimate the probability of differences in one feature before and after the experiment, provided that the data had a normal distribution. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test (Z test) was used in case of non-compliance with the normal distribution of the data of two dependent samples. The Mann-Whitney U-test was used to compare the differences between the results of two independent samples in different tests. Results The analysis of the dynamics of changes in the teams’ game performance (the changes were revealed in the process of analysing video recordings of games in 3x3 format competition) showed that the EG players increased the number of attacks per game to 20.20±2.59 and improved their performance to 12.00±2.45, which was 59.05% of efficiency. Indicators in CG remained almost unchanged, and the efficiency equalled 50.25%. The comparison of changes in all indicators in the groups after the experiment still has no statistical difference (the number of attacks - t = 0.819 at p = 0.444; of them effective - t = 1.671 at p = 0.146; in terms of effectiveness - t = 1.632 at p = 0.154). Conclusions Our proposed option for improving the tactical interactions of 3x3 basketball players, which was based on the use of specific improvisational exercises for 12 weeks’ period, had a positive effect on basketball players’ tactical preparedness, increasing the effectiveness of their game performance during competitive games.

The purpose of this study was to analyze and measure the competence of student-level basketball coaches. The sample in this study were 70 student level basketball athletes. There are four indicators of coach competence, namely Motivation Competency, Game-strategy competency, Character-building competency, Technique competency. Data collection was carried out in 5 Yogyakarta schools simultaneously for one day. This research instrument uses a questionnaire and is distributed via the Google form. This questionnaire uses a Likert scale of 1 – 4. Before the questionnaire is distributed to athletes to answer, the Aiken's validity test is first carried out with a value of 0.898 and the Cronbach Alpha reliability test is 0.791. Based on the competency results of Yogyakarta student basketball coaches "very poor" 6 answers (8.57%), "less" 17 answers (24.29%), "enough" 21 answers (30%), "Good" 23 answers (32.86%), "very good” 3 answers (4.28%). However, the weakness of Yogyakarta student basketball coaches is the Character-building competency and Technique competency indicators. This is evidenced by the total answers are very less and less, more than the total answers are very good and good. So that there is a need for special training support, coach training, or basketball coach education through sports colleges, the competency test stages are carried out gradually and periodically so that the competence of student basketball coaches can continue to increase and develop.

The offensive tactics of basketball teams consist of a series of actions performed with the collaboration of two or more players on the court. The study aimed to determine the differences in the possessions and the points of the play-type statistics of the eight playoff teams and the other ten non-playoff teams of the 2020 to 2021 men’s Euroleague season. The study sample consists of a total of 13,056 play types obtained through systematic observation methodology, which examined 272 matches involving 17 teams. Descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney U test was employed to obtain the findings. It was found that the catch’n & shoot, pick and roll ball handler are the most frequently used possessions and points that produced play-type statistics for all teams. Results showed that isolation ( U = 3,7740.5; z = −3.93; p < .05) pick and roll handler’s ( U = 39,932; z = −2.91; p < .05), post-up ( U = 39,878.5; z = −2.94; p < .05) and Screen-off possessions ( U = 41,689; z = −2,107; p < .05) of the playoff teams were statistically higher than non-playoff teams. Positively significant differences were also observed in isolation ( U = 38,172; z = −3,744; p < .05), pick and roll handler’s ( U = 40,278.5; z = −2,748; p < .05), post-up ( U = 38,353.5; z = −3,659; p < .05), and Screen-off ( U = 38,819.5; z = −3,434; p < .05) points of the playoff teams and non-playoff teams. These results show that playoff teams are prominent with the screen-off possessions and points as a team play, but post-ups, pick’n roll handlers selection, and catch’n shoot possessions and points are displayed by highly talented players. The findings may assist coaches and managers in roster building. Coaches might consider including these play-types in offensive sets and can create a more productive system. This understanding can be integrated into youth organizations’ training programs to raise high-level players.
