Integrated flexible handheld probe for imaging and evaluation of iridocorneal angle

Abstract: An imaging probe is designed and developed by integrating a miniaturized charge-coupled diode camera and light-emitting diode light source, which enables evaluation of the iridocorneal region inside the eye. The efficiency of the prototype probe instrument is illustrated initially by using not only eye models, but also samples such as pig eye. The proposed methodology and developed scheme are expected to find potential application in iridocorneal angle documentation, glaucoma diagnosis, and follow-up managemen… Show more

“…The flexible handheld probe has an imaging sensor located at the central axis of the probe and has a variable resolution at different depths which is optimized for recording the ICA of the eye 17 . The imaging probe was placed near the limbal region of the porcine cornea to image the opposite ICA through vidisic gel.…”

“…Solutions with the sample were introduced by capillary action. The fluorescence response was found to be more efficient when using water as medium, as well as the structure with central wavelength of 1060 nm . The same authors also proposed an integrated HC‐PCF transverse optical trapping system for optical manipulation and detection.…”

“…17 Our group has worked on many optical instrumentation projects for biomedical imaging applications. 18,19 We have recently demonstrated a miniaturized integrated charge-coupled device (CCD) camera and light-emitting diode (LED) light probe imaging system to image and evaluate the iridocorneal angle of the porcine eye. This paper in this context discusses the modified probe system which can record, capture, and display images of the iridocorneal angle region and fundus using visible and near-infrared sources.…”
