Integrating Core and Aeromagnetic Datasets to Evaluate Mineral Potential of Southern Nupe Basin, Nigeria

Abstract: Aeromagnetic and core drilled data covering parts of southern Nupe Basin was acquired and interpreted with the view to evaluating the mineral potentials of the area through interpretation of the structural features in the area; determination of the curie isotherm depth; and correlation of aeromagnetic outcomes with the core sample data from the area. Two major regional fault trends were interpreted, trending, Northeast–Southwest (NE–SW) and NNE–SSW with minor northwest–southeast (NW–SE) directions. Two depth s… Show more

“…The competence (or strength) of any geological material is influenced by several factors such as the mineralogy, the character of the particle contact, and the agent of weathering (Blyth et al, 1984;Idornigie et al, 2006). Since every civil engineering structure is seated on geological earth materials, it is imperative to conduct a pre-construction investigation of the subsurface of the proposed structures to ascertain the strength and the fitness of the host earth materials as well as the timed post-construction monitoring of such structure to ensure its integrity Onyeanwuna et al 59 (Idornigie et al, 2006;Obasi et al 2022;Usman et al 2022;Urom et al 2021;Bassey et al 2024). Furthermore, it is expedient to monitor the exposure of aquifer materials to surface pollutants.…”

“…The presence of groundwater quality issues in the area will have negative implications due to the growing reliance on groundwater supply by the increasing population. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to evaluate the groundwater potential in the area for domestic and agricultural use (Usman et al, 2022).…”
