Integrating Ecosystem Services Valuation into Land Use Planning: Case of the Ukrainian Agricultural Landscapes

Abstract: Modern agricultural landscapes produce multiple ecosystem services. Ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes have social, economic, and environmental value—providing a wide array of benefits to society. Absence of scientifically based and practically tested methodologies of identification, mapping, and evaluation of ecosystem services in agricultural landscapes hamper integration of its values in the current system of land use planning. “…Generally, the product value and oxygen release value have been ignored [ 22 , 23 ]. As an ecological resource, the value composition of a marine fishery carbon sink has much in common with the production value composition of an ecosystem [ 24 , 25 ], and its product value, carbon storage value, and oxygen release value should be considered an inseparable whole.…”

“…Cultural heritage is most commonly considered from the perspective of tangible, intangible and environmental assets, but technological and socioeconomic changes yielded a new category, digital heritage. This category is relevant to rural areas as well, even though they used to be associated with cultural landscapes (Soloviy et al , 2021. Prus et al , 2021), tangible heritage, such as religious artefacts and handicraft (Fonseca and Ramos, 2012), traditional architecture and land (Olczak et al , 2022), and nontangible heritage (George, 2010).…”
