“…This finding has important implications for research, conservation, and fisheries management actions concerning these species. We strongly recommend that future studies and monitoring initiatives in this ecologically and culturally important MPA (Miranda et al, 2020) should adopt an integrative taxonomic approach that incorporates molecular tools to correctly assign mullet specimens to species (Schlick-Steiner et al, 2010). Uedson Jacobina for the contributions to the improvement of this work.…”

“…Banerjee et al (2022) reported PAS were more vulnerable to climatic attributes than anthropogenic pressures in the Eastern Himalayas Landscape in India. This may be because the Himalayan Mountain ecosystem is particularly fragile and susceptible to changes in climatic conditions (Tewari et al 2017), but less so to (Martin et al 2016;Hummel et al 2019Hummel et al , 2021Miranda et al 2020). Resettlement and rehabilitation of tribal people from PAs may not be an even-handed approach because it may violate the rights of Indigenous communities living in PAs, disrupt the traditional livelihood practices, result in loss of cultural identity, engender severe emotional and psychological effects, and culminate in long-lasting disputes that may impede cooperation in conservation efforts.…”

“…Our study used spatial distribution and abundance data on parrotfish species to develop a prioritization approach for the largest Brazilian coastal MPA. Parrotfish fishing is an extremely important local community livelihood in this MPA 25 , 30 . Therefore, our study provides important baseline data for the long-term monitoring of these key species and supporting information for the refinement of management zones aiming to maintain parrotfish populations in the future and support local and national managers' conservation strategies.…”
