“…Accordingly, we targeted adult trees and did not address the development of tree architecture, which is a major modelling object of FSPM models such as L-PEACH (Allen et al 2005;Lopez et al 2008) or MAppleT, where it is enriched by a biomechanical perspective . Modelling this development leads to realistic simulations of tree shaping (Lopez et al 2008). Instead, we used tree architecture as an input of QualiTree, which opens the way to combining it with tree architecture models.…”

“…The distance between 0 P and 3 P is the length of fruit axis, its value is l , the X-axis part of 2 P is half of the max fruit diameter, its value is r , the Y-axis part of 2 P is the max fruit diameter on fruit axis, 1 P is any point on the curve. So the control points of Bézier curve can be deduced by these four type value points.…”

“…In these simulations, mechanistic models of plant function specified at various levels of abstraction have been applied to simulate various plants. For instance, the allocation and transport of carbon has been considered in peach (Allen et al 2006, Lopez et al 2008; the relationship between plant structure, fruiting patterns and environment, and the effect of defoliation on plant structure have been addressed in cotton Hearn 2002, Thornby et al 2003); and the impact of light has been considered in various coniferous and deciduous trees (Mech and Prusinkiewicz 1996;Renton et al 2005a and2005b) and in clover (Gautier et al 2000). In the present study, we developed a mixed approach based on stochastic models for representing plant topology and mechanistic model for the geometry.…”
