Integration of Geomatic Techniques for the 3d Representation and Monitoring of a Veteran Chestnut Tree

Abstract: Abstract. This study concerns the application of different geomatic techniques in forestry sector. An accurate 3D model of a veteran chestnut tree (Castanea sativa Mill.) has been realised integrating point clouds by Mobile Laser Scanner (MLS) and photogrammetry techniques. The surveys were conducted in two seasons (summer time: July 22nd 2021; autumn time: December 10th 2021), since chestnut is a deciduous tree and thus taking the chance to detect it also without leaves. Therefore, it was obtained tree’s metr… Show more

“…To this end, modern measurement technologies should be used to obtain a digital version of the surrounding world quickly and accurately. We can find examples of such activities (localisation and quantity) in [11,15,17,99,100]. As for the quality aspect, confirmation of the validity of this thesis can be found in [101][102][103][104][105].…”

“…LiDAR laser scanning can be used both for inventory measurements, describing reality as presented in papers [11,12], as well as for long-term activities, i.e., monitoring [13,14]. In environmental issues, there is often a need to use multi-source data, examples of which can be found in papers [15][16][17][18]. Data integration also occurs in the area of cultural heritage, examples of which can be found in papers [19,20].…”
