Intelligent agent-assisted organizational memory in knowledge management systems

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the application of intelligent agents (IAs) in organizational memory systems within the larger schema of knowledge management (KM) strategies. This includes targeted roles of IAs in relation to institutional memory approaches. Design/methodology/approach A conceptual exploration of related sections of the Grundspenkis seven-layer intelligent enterprise memory framework that serves to identify, retain, deliver and reuse information for future utilization is cond… Show more

“…Existing literature highlights the strong linkage between CE and I-4.0; for example, Nascimento et al (2019) suggest that I-4.0 could help reusable scrap electronic devices' circularity. Further, the impact of AI, service and policy framework establishes a strong relationship between I-4.0 and CE (Alstete and Meyer, 2020;Pradana et al, 2017;Quintana-Amate et al, 2015;Rajput and Singh, 2019;Vitharana et al, 2012).…”

“…For example, for Vasconcelos et al (2003Vasconcelos et al ( , p. 1412 the organizational memory "a comprehensive computer system that captures a company's accumulated knowledge assets and makes them available to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of knowledge-intensive work processes." Alstete & Meyer (2020), considers that to develop and implement an effective and efficient organizational memory information system a combination of the following elements is needed: information technology, knowledge management, intelligent agents, and end users. However, understanding the organization's memory as a structure necessary to preserve information and knowledge, and above all, without distinguishing the type of information and knowledge that is the object of this type of memory, carries a major risk: that of considering the organization's memory as a means of information processing or a computer system.…”

“…One aspect of knowledge management (KM) is the implementation of a central repository or system to manage the local contents and memories of the organization (Alstete and Meyer, 2020), rather than leaving it to chance (Frost, 2015). Critical and relevant enterprise and proprietary knowledge, as well as memories of organizations, must be stored in a location, systems, and repositories, and in a format that can be easily accessed by users (Dei, 2017).…”
