Intelligent assignment in clusters to enhance collaboration and innovation

Abstract: Purpose Small organizations within profit maximization supply chains form industrial clusters to share resources. They mainly deliver products and services in a reactive manner, where the cluster is only facilitating. However, the cluster management can lead business development and assign work packages intelligently to appropriate cluster members by respecting collaboration and innovation. This upgrade of the cluster management requires a systematic approach. Therefore, the intelligent Cluster Assignment Tool… Show more

“…There are 31 qualitative articles, 46 quantitative articles and 6 qualitative-quantitative articles; thus, the quantitative approach was predominant. Of the four papers that use mathematical modeling, three adopted multicriteria decision models: Ucler (2017) (Fuzzy e Analytic Hierarchy Process – AHP), Boly, Morel, Assielou, and Camargo (2014) (Fuzzy), and Rejeb, Ben, Morel-Guimarães, Boly, and Assiélou (2008) (AHP and ELECTRE).…”

“…On the one hand, literature points out that organizations tend to have better performance and opportunities when they are embedded in collaboration (Moreno & Miguelez, 2012;Whittington, Owen-Smith, & Powell, 2009). On the other hand, organizational competitiveness is based on the development of commercial networks (Pechlaner & Bachinger, 2010), especially in the context of clusters where the proximity between small and medium-sized companies facilitates the flow of resources, information and knowledge sharing (Ucler, 2017). In essence, industrial clusters can be considered an alternative interorganizational network as they are environments driven by competition and cooperation (Strand, Wiig, Torheim, Solli-Saether, & Nesset, 2017).…”

“…Consequently, they are fertile soils knowledge sharing, incremental processes, and collective innovation (Gebreeyesus and Mohnen, 2013). In this respect, Ucler (2017) proposed the Intelligent Cluster Assignment Tool based on the fuzzy analytics process method. This particular study points out that firms belonging to the same cluster are actively searching for opportunities to cooperate in joint initiatives that contribute to transform the cluster into a virtual organization.…”

“…Innovation can be in the form of new products and services, processes, raw materials, business models or marketing techniques (Sawhney, 2006;Tsekouras et al, 2014). Successful innovations imply a certain upgrade of the organization (Humphrey and Schmitz, 2002;Ucler, 2017), facilitated by the change of existing practices. This further leads to management innovation and a new organization (Birkinshaw, et al, 2008).…”
