Intensity measurements on ?-hyperonic and kaonic atoms

Abstract: Abstract. 2;-hyperonic X-ray lines have been observed in 8 elements and their intensities as well as those of the accompaning kaonic X-ray lines have been determined. The 2;-atomic cascade has been found to be similar to those of other exotic atoms. The production of S-hyperons per stopped K-has been measured by comparing their X-ray intensities. For the first time the intensity attenuation due to the strong absorptive 2;N interaction could be measured in four cases, and simple optical model calculations have … Show more

“…In order to resolve these problems, we have to compare the measured intensity values with cascade calculations 9 For this we use a code based on a cascade program written by Hiifner [5], and described in more detail in [6]. The intensities of the X-ray transitions are calculated by starting the atomic cascade at n--40 and assuming a modified initial statistical population of the form P4o,t=(21 +l)e ~l, the P40,z normalized such that ZtP, oa=l.…”

“…In addition to what was described in [6], the absorption was included in the code. The experimental strong-interaction widths F~o w of the lower level (see [2]) and the initial values F~ * for the upper levels are given as input parameters (Fu ~ is a fit parameter).…”

“…In the atomic state that the effects of the strong interaction start to happen and also in the following states, we have a variation in the intensity of the X-ray transition of the spectrum. This change occurs in the shift and the width of the spectral line [1,2,3,4].…”

“…The second experiment took place at CERN in 1975 [2]. They observed X-ray transitions in E~-atoms in eight elements: C, P, Ca, Ti, Zn, Nb, Cd, Ba (Z varies from 6 to 56).…”
