Abstract:Atopy is characterized by the trend of an individual to produce high amounts of IgE in response to a specific allergen, leading to the development of asthma, rhinitis or eczema. However, the manifestation of the allergy phenotype depends on the interaction of genetic factors and exposure to environmental allergens.
