Interactions between inorganic surface treatment agents and matrix of Portland cement-based materials

Abstract: Magnesium fluorosilicate, waterglass, sodium fluorosilicate, and combination of waterglass and sodium fluorosilicate were used as surface treatment agents and their interactions with the Portland cement hydrates were studied. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were employed to analyze the phase changes in the hardened cement pastes after surface treatments. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis was adopted… Show more

“…By deconvolving the sucrose-modified Fe2O3/SBA-15 in the Gaussian profile showed the fourfold are Si−O−Si (1075.32 cm −1 ), CH2 (1206.84 cm −1 ), C=C asymmetric (1616.19 cm −1 ), and C=O (1729.97 cm −1 ). Illustrates of deconvolution the appearance of three peaks in the 1200-1800 cm −1 range confirm that the sucrose modification of iron oxide/SBA-15 was successful [32]. XRD patterns of SBA-15, Fe2O3/SBA-15 and sucrose-modified Fe2O3/SBA-15 in wide-angle, and low-angle are shown in Figure 6.…”

“…4b, c). The characteristic groups and wavenumbers of hardened cement stones due to GO/CNTs additives have been reported in the literature [37][38][39][40][41][42][43]. Table 6 lists these characteristic groups and wavenumbers for O-H, H-O-H, Si-O, and C-O, respectively, that correspond to calcium hydroxide, chemically bound water, calcium silicate hydrate, and calcium carbonate in hardened cement paste, respectively.…”

“…Figure 3 shows that the workability of HPC is still able to be used in construction industry since the slump retention behavior of concrete with a composition of 2% PCE can be maintained until 45 mn with a slump value of 10 cm. Meaning that the proper amount of added PCE would be effective in improving the slump retention due to the addition of PCE can induce greater physico-chemical surface interactions through electrostatic interactions [10][11][12].…”
