Interactive Timeline Approach for Contextual Spatio-Temporal ECT Data Investigation

Abstract: This paper presents a novel approach to a complex process of electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) measurement data analysis. ECT is frequently employed for non-invasive monitoring of industrial process phenomena. Proposed methodology is based on the premeditated integration of the spatial and temporal relations inherent in the measurement records into the workflow of the analysis procedure. We propose a concept of interactive timeline that enables arranging data visualization according to the user’s current… Show more

“…However, due to the ubiquity of the measurement method, it can also be utilised for objects with differing electrical properties. As the name suggests, the hybrid tomograph device is designed to merge two measuring methods: the EIT impedance and the ECT capacitance measurement [39][40][41]. The first versions of the hybrid tomograph built in our laboratory were based on microprocessor systems.…”

“…Maintaining distance between people and other objects is often a part of the regular safety protocol (eg. in chemical, food or manufacturing industry), and could be considered to complement novel interactive systems for industrial process supervision [58,69]. Similar systems could also benefit workers interacting with autonomous machines [70] or aid rescue forces working in conditions of limited vision [39,79].…”

“…A similar idea can be found in [20], where a Kalman filter is used to suppress reconstructed image noise. Spatio-temporal data analysis of process tomography measurement data, called an interactive timeline layer, was proposed in [21]. The benefits of multi-dimensional improvements and data-fusion methods in industrial process tomography were discussed by Hoyle and Wang [22].…”
