Interlayer ammine complexes of metal uranyl phosphates

Abstract: RAFAELA POZAS-TORMO, SEBASTIAN BRUQUE GAMEZ, MAR~A MARTINEZ-LARA, and LAUREANO MORENO-REAL. Can. J. Chem. 66, 2849 (1988).The solids derived from HUP by substituting metallic ions for protons, take up Lewis base molecules (like NH3 and C4H9NH2) in the interlamellar space. The diffractograms of these inclusion compounds indicate that the host crystallinity was preserved. The infrared spectroscopy of the Ni, Co, Cu, Zn, and Cd intercalates revealed that part of the sorbate was protonated in the interlaminar space… Show more

“…PIXE spectra (B and C) were obtained from random points on the samples obtained from the columns described in Figure 2 [(B) regenerated with priming solution; (C) regenerated with citrate buffer] after the third challenge with Ni 2+ . Tormo et al, 1986Tormo et al, , 1987Tormo et al, , 1988. All the crystalline powders in these cases were indexed as a tetragonal unit cell in which the hk0 reflections of the HUP parent persist, but the hkl reflections, notably those of 00l, vary.…”

“…The interlamellar space is filled with four water molecules per molecular unit of HUP, one of which is protonated; the distance between the uranyl phosphate (UP) layers is 8.73 Å. HUP can exchange its protons for mono-, di- tri-, and tetravalent cations. , Upon ion exchange the electroneutrality of the compound is maintained, so a monovalent cation exchanges for one proton, a divalent cation for two protons, etc. The intercalating guest cations can be the main group metal cations (Li + , Na + , K + , Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ , Sr 2+ ), , transition metal (TM) cations (Mn 2+ , Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ , Cd 2+ ), transition metal complexes (Cr(NH 3 ) 6 3+ , copper(I) bis(dimethylphenanthroline)), , lanthanides (La 3+ , Pr 3+ , Nd 3+ , Eu 3+ ), , and organic cations (butylammonium, octylammonium, pyrazinium, pyridinium). …”

“…The intercalating guest cations can be the main group metal cations (Li + , Na + , K + , Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ , Sr 2+ ), 10,15 transition metal (TM) cations (Mn 2+ , Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ , Cd 2+ ), 16 transition metal complexes (Cr(NH 3 ) 6 3+ , copper(I) bis(dimethylphenanthroline)), 17,18 lanthanides (La 3+ , Pr 3+ , Nd 3+ , Eu 3+ ), 19,20 and organic cations (butylammonium, octylammonium, pyrazinium, pyridinium). [21][22][23] HUP has also been investigated for its luminescence properties 21 and for the possibility of host-guest electron and energy transfer. 9 The strong green-yellow luminescence of HUP is caused by the uranyl cation, 24 and its excited state can be quenched by guest cations.…”
