Interleukin-17F gene polymorphisms in Korean patients with Behçet’s disease

Abstract: IL-17 is a novel cytokine that is characterized by an ability to induce several types of cells to secrete proinflammatory cytokines in various inflammatory diseases. This study analyzed the influence of IL-17F gene polymorphisms on disease susceptibility and clinical features. Ninety-nine Behçet's disease (BD) patients and 114 controls were genotyped to analyze three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) including A126G, G155A, and A161G of the IL-17F gene using automated sequencing. We compared the frequenci… Show more

“…Until now, no other work was reported in the literature relating IL17F polymorphism and GVHD. We did not find association between IL17F genotypes and cGVHD; however other authors showed association between IL17F polymorphism (T/C 7488) and Behçet disease [21], gastric cancer [14], and bone mineral density [22].…”

“…Most of these studies demonstrated an association between SNPs in exon 3 (especially rs763780) and disease susceptibility. A positive association between rs2397084 SNP in exon 3 of the IL-17F gene and Behçet’s disease was reported in a Korean population [11]. A significant association between the rs763780 SNP in exon 3 of the IL-17F gene and ulcerative colitis was observed in both Japanese and Chinese populations [12,13].…”

“…In our study, 2 polymorphisms (in the promoter region and in exon 3 of the IL-17F gene) were identified in a Korean population. Genetic association studies to define polymorphisms in the IL-17F gene have been performed for several immune disorders such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis vulgaris, ulcerative colitis and Behçet’s disease [11,12,13,14]. Most of these studies demonstrated an association between SNPs in exon 3 (especially rs763780) and disease susceptibility.…”

“…These findings hinted that the IL-23/IL-17 pathway together with IFN-γ was associated with the active intraocular inflammation in BD [5]. In addition, authors also identified IL-23R and IL-17F gene polymorphisms which were associated with susceptibility to BD [6,7].…”
