Intermetallic Compound Cu2Sb Nanoparticles for Effective Electrocatalytic Oxidation of an Antibiotic Drug: Sulphadiazine

Abstract: The synthesis of ordered nanosized intermetallic compounds is of specific interest in tuning their surface properties to obtain enhanced electrocatalytic activity and selectivity, used for various practical applications. In these regards, single crystalline Cu2Sb nanoparticles have been investigated, which are rarely explored in electroanalysis. The Cu2Sb nanoparticle was synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method and applied to the electrochemical sensing of sulphadiazine (SUZ). The nature of the as-synth… Show more

“…Rosuvastatin, containing a sulfonyl functional groups attached to a pyrimidine moiety was used to lower the elevated cholesterol levels [46] (Figure 4). Some other examples of pyrimidine-based drugs in clinical use include idoxuridine (Antiviral) [47], trimethoprim (Antibacterial) [48], sulphamethiazine (Antibacterial) [49], sulphadiazine (Antibacterial) [50], sulphadoxine (Antimalarial) [51], minoxidil (Antihyper tensive) [52] and prazosin (Antihypertensive) [53]. Similarly, barbiturates, such as phenobarbitone, are used as sedatives, hypnotics, and anticonvulsants [54,55]; propylthiouracil is used as an antithyroid agent [56]; thionzylamine is used as an H1-antihistamine [57], and toxoflavin and fervennuline are used as antibiotics [58].…”

“…The anticancer activity was tested against HePG-2, HCT-116 and MCF-7 cell lines using 5-flurouracil as the standard drug. All compounds displayed significant anticancer activity in which compound 20 (Figure 24) was found as the most active compound with IC 50 [117]. The synthesized compounds were first screened for anticancer activity against tumor cell lines including HeLa, HCT116, PC-3, and MDA-MB-231 using AZD5438 as a standard drug.…”

“…The compositional and structural stabilities of IMCs are crucial if they are to be employed as catalysts, sensors, or electronic components that may encounter reactive gas phase environments at elevated temperatures or applied potentials. The performance of the supported IMC nanoparticles in catalytic, electronic, or sensing applications is affected by or directly dependent upon the compositional stability of the particle bulk, 19,21,[152][153][154][155] surface composition, 64,80,[156][157][158][159] and morphology of the particle. 91,[160][161][162] Control of particle surface composition is also paramount in heterogeneous catalysis and sensing applications.…”

“…Various physical and chemical vapor deposition processes are used for thin films. Cu 2 Sb is being tested for the oxidation of antibiotic drugs [2] but is also being discussed as anode material for Li‐ion batteries, [3] Na‐ion batteries [4] and Na‐ion fuel cells [3g,5] . In addition, it shows high magnetoresistance [6] .…”

“…In addition, it shows high magnetoresistance [6] . It was synthesized from the melt but also hydrothermally from CuCl 2 and SbCl 3, [2] or mechanochemically as a nanocomposite alloy from Sb 2 O 3 with Al as reducing agent [7] . To prepare thin films of Cu 2 Sb, antimony was electrodeposited onto copper from a solution of K 2 (Sb 2 (C 4 H 4 O 6 ) 2 ) ⋅ 3H 2 O, which was then annealed at 300 °C under vacuum [3d] …”
