Internal magnetic fields and supersymmetry in orientifolds

Abstract: Within the context of type I strings, we show the equivalence between BPS D9 branes with internal magnetic fluxes H_i in the three torii and non-BPS D3 branes with inverted internal magnetic fluxes 1/H_i. We then construct new supersymmetric examples of Z_2 x Z_2 orientifolds with discrete torsion which in the past had only non-supersymmetric solutions and emphasize the role of new twisted tadpole cancellation conditions, arising in the presence of magnetic fields, in order to get a consistent spectrum. In a s… Show more

“…Later on, type I models based on magnetized D9-branes were constructed [18,87], basically following the initial proposal of [69]. Finally, after N = 1 chiral models based on intersecting D6-branes were built, D = 4, N = 1 type I models with non-trivial bundles have also been constructed [88,89].…”

“…More concretely, we study supersymmetric intersecting D-brane models on the T 6 Z 2 ×Z 2 orientifold background, which has enjoyed great interest in the past (see e.g. [37][38][39][40][41] among many others). We consider the ensemble of solutions to the tadpole cancellation conditions using 1 Criticism of the landscape idea is expressed in [24,25].…”

“…In [50,51,33] the case 2M = 2 (Z 2 × Z 2 ) was studied and toy models with removed adjoint moduli were presented. 2 Another, empirical, observation favouring the discrete torsion orbifolds has been made in [57]: In cases where there are no three family models without discrete torsion (viz.…”
