Internal telomeric repeats and ‘TCP domain’ protein‐binding sites co‐operate to regulate gene expression in Arabidopsis thaliana cycling cells

Abstract: SummaryWe have focused our interest on two cis-regulatory elements, named site II motif and telo box, identi®ed within the promoter of plant proliferating cellular nuclear antigen (PCNA) and putatively involved in meristematic expression of the gene. A conserved topological association between site II motifs and telo boxes is observed in the promoter of numerous genes expressed in cycling cells, including several cell cyclerelated genes and 153 Arabidopsis genes encoding ribosomal proteins. Meristematic expres… Show more

“…All the genes in drought clusters, their relative expression across the stages and their 'drought' cluster membership are provided in Supplemental Table S5. in combination with the telo-box motif (Tremousaygue et al, 2003). These motifs are co-located in the promoters of about 70% of 216 ribosomal protein genes in Arabidopsis.…”

“…The rate of protein synthesis is key to cellular growth, and stimulation of the expression of genes encoding components of the translational apparatus occurs in cycling cells and upon the addition of auxin in plant cells (Trémousaygue et al, 2003;Gao et al, 2008). In multicellular organisms, it is debated whether the factors determining growth impose their influence on organs as a whole or whether they regulate growth and proliferation at the cellular level (Tsukaya and Beemster, 2006).…”

“…A conserved topological association between these two elements is observed in the promoter of genes expressed in cycling cells as well as in Arabidopsis genes encoding ribosomal proteins. Interestingly, teloboxes are also observed within the promoters of other plant genes expressed in late G1 such as RNRs, raising the possibility that this element could be involved in a common regulatory process that connects the expression of a set of genes at the G1/S transition (Trémousaygue et al, 2003). RNR2A is up-regulated by MeJA and is COI1 dependent.…”
