Interpenetrating Polymer Network Hydrogel Membranes of Karayagum and Sodium Alginate for Control Release of Flutamide Drug

Abstract: Flutamide (FLT) is a potent non-steroidal antiandrogen drug primarily used in palliative treatment of prostate cancer that inhibits androgen uptake and / or nuclear binding of androgen in target tissue. The present study gives, the experimental results on the successful encapsulation of Flutamide drug using Sodium Alginate (SA)/ Karaya gum (KG)) blend hydrogel membranes as controlled release (CR) polymer matrices. The Flutamidecontaining polymer blend hydrogel membranes have been prepared by changing the exper… Show more

“…The percentage of D-PA release was increased by increasing the content of SA in the polymer matrix due to its more hydrophilic nature. As the content of KG increases, the percentage of D-PA release was decreased due to the presence of ester linkages in the KG which increases the hydrophobicity of the matrix, thereby decreasing the release rate of D-PA. 39…”

“…In 2016, Nagarjuna et al [ 137 ] developed a hydrogel membrane consisting of a mixture of sodium alginate (SA) and Karaya rubber (KG). It was used for testing the sustained release, in physiological conditions obtained by phosphate buffer (pH 7.4 T 37 °C), of flutamide (FLT), a potent nonsteroidal antiandrogenic prostate anticancer drug, which was membrane-loaded.…”
