Interpenetrating polymer networks based on thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUS) and cis‐1,4‐polyisoprene

Abstract: SYNOPSISSemi-interpenetrating polymer networks based on two elastomers, cis-1,4-polyisoprene (PI) and thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers ( TPUs ) were prepared in varying compositions. The PI component was cross-linked using peroxide initiators. Modulus and mechanical properties were investigated as a function of composition and temperature. Slight synergisms were observed in mechanical properties, particularly for compositions containing 10% PI by weight. Little or no molecular mixing is shown by different… Show more

“…To determine the glass transition temperature, which was obtained from the midpoint of the endotherm of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve or peak of the derivative heat capacity vs. temperature curve,31 a TA DSC Q 10 was used. Approximately 10–20 mg of sample, after uniaxial tensile test, was placed into a sealed alumina crucible and put inside the furnace under a blanket of nitrogen purging at a rate of 20 mL min −1 .…”

“…This dipole cause interaction with many polar polymers. [17][18][19] PVC, by virtue of the weakly "acidic" or proton-donating ␣-hydrogen, has been shown to exhibit compatibility with a considerable number of polymers. The polymers that are compatible with PVC include butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers, segmented polyether ester copolymers, poly(-caprolactone), and others.…”

“…The mould was kept at room temperature for 24 h for PU formation. Then, the temperature of the mould was slowly raised to 80 °C to polymerize acrylonitrile by sequential polymerization 22, 23. The transparent golden‐yellow to brown coloured PU/PAN IPNs were then taken out of the mould.…”
