A hyper-emotion theory of psychological illnesses is presented. It postulates that these illnesses have an onset in which a cognitive evaluation initiates a sequence of unconscious transitions yielding a basic emotion. This emotion is appropriate for the situation but inappropriate in its intensity. Whenever it recurs, it leads individuals to a focus on the precipitating situation and to characteristic patterns of inference that can bolster the illness. Individuals with a propensity to psychological illness accordingly reason better than more robust individuals, but only on topics relevant to their illness. The theory is assessed in the light of previous research, a small epidemiological study of patients, and 3 empirical studies.

El enfoque cognitivo plantea que la hipocondría y el trastorno de pánico se caracterizan por la interpretación errónea de las sensaciones corporales como señal de enfermedad. Las propuestas terapéuticas más efectivas para estos trastornos se centran en la modificación de dichos sesgos interpretativos. Para analizar estas cuestiones se han realizado dos estudios. En el primer estudio se examinan algunas diferencias entre las interpretaciones características de la hipocondría y aquéllas típicas del trastorno de pánico. Se administró el Cuestionario de Acontecimientos Ambiguos (CAÁ) y el Cuestionario de Interpretación de Sensaciones Corporales (CISC) a 17 pacientes con hipocondría, 17 pacientes con trastorno por angustia y 17 sujetos normales. Los resultados mostraron que los grupos clínicos difirieron en el tipo de sensaciones corporales que consideraban señal de enfermedad y en el curso temporal de la amenaza percibida, sin embargo mostraron las mismas conductas disfuncionales. En el segundo estudio se analizan los cambios producidos por un tratamiento cognitivo-conductual en el grupo de hipocondría. Se administró el CAÁ antes y después del tratamiento y a los 2 y 6 meses de seguimiento. Los resultados revelaron que la terapia consiguió mejorías en la tendencia de los pacientes a atribuir consecuencias negativas a los síntomas.Palabras clave: Hipocondría, trastorno por angustia, sensación corporal, interpretación errónea, conducta disfuncional, tratamiento cognitivo-conductual. Attributional tendencies in hypochondríasis: characterístics and changes with treatmentThe cognitive approach proposes that both hypochondríasis and panic disorder are characterized by the misinterpretation of bodily sensations as sign of diseeise. The more eSective therapeutic proposals for these disorders are focused on the modification of such interpretative bias. In order to analyse these topics two studies were carried out. The first study examined some differences between the interpretations characteristic of hypochondríasis and those typical of panic disorder. The Ambiguous Events Questionnaire (AEQ) and the Bodily Sensations Interpretation Questionnaire (BSIQ) were administered to 17 patients with hypochondríasis, 17 patients with panic disorder and 17 normal subjects. The results showed that the clinical groups differed in the type of bodily sensations that are considered as sign of disease and in the time course of perceived threat, however showed the same dysfunctional behaviours. The second study examined the changes caused by a cognitivebehavioural treatment in hypochondríasis group. The AEQ was administered before and after the treatment and at 2 and 6 months foUow-up. The results showed that the therapy improved the tendency of patients to attribute negative consequences at symptoms.

The purpose of this study is to compare thought -action fusion and anxiety sensitivity among girls and boys adolescents having obsessive-compulsive symptoms in clinical and nonclinical extent. The survey selects 385 high school students in city of Esfahan, Iran and distributes a questionnaire among them. All questions are designed in Likert scale and participants are divided into two groups of with and without OCD. The results show that there is a significant and positive difference in thought -action fusion and anxiety sensitivity among girls and boys adolescents having or symptoms in clinical and nonclinical l extent (P<0.01).
