The influence of global lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted the lives of many people. Once performed elsewhere, many activities had to be moved to private spaces of individual homes, influencing how people use their residential space, modifying their living and working conditions. The purpose of this study was to research the changes in the use of residential space through questionnaires addressed to respondents in five age groups (up to 25, 26–35, 36–50, 51–65, and over 65), and living or studying in the Milan area (Lombardy)—an area affected severely by COVID-19 in the period March–May 2020. The obtained questionnaire results allowed the authors to create a set of guidelines for apartment design, intended to improve their spatial performance. The observations made when creating the case study projects led to two main conclusions: First, at the level of the house plan, the arrangement of the plan should be free and adaptable, al-lowing for fast alteration by the user. Second, the project should be tailor-made, highly specialized, and purposefully designed at the level of home office design, including appropriate furnishings, technical appliances, and lighting systems.

Konsep sistem Open Building yang diutarakan oleh Habraken pada tahun 1961, menggagas mengenai pemisahan struktur (support) dengan interior & non-struktural (infill), sehingga antara satu dan lainnya tidak saling bergantung jika ada perubahan dalam bangunan. Penelitian ini berfokus membahas dasar-dasar dari teori Open Building dan bagaimana hubungannya dengan arsitektur yang berkelanjutan. Selain itu, untuk mengetahui kelebihan juga kekurangan dari sistem tersebut. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah studi literatur yang menggunakan data sekunder dari berbagai tulisan serta artikel yang membahas serta mendukung pembahasan mengenai Open Building. Dari hasil akhir yang didapatkan, beberapa pernyataan atau penelitian sebelumnya memang mendukung Open Building sebagai suatu sistem yang mendukung arsitektur yang berkelanjutan dengan kemampuan beradaptasinya, namun tetap diperlukan dukungan dari instansi pemerintah yang terkait, dan juga pengenalan lebih lanjut kepada masyarakat umum.

Tourism impacts spatial changes in the urban neighbourhood, including Prawirotaman, which is experiencing a loss of social space. The community continues to strive for its social spaces in its private transitional space, namely the house yard and terrace. Hence, this study aims to explore the territorial behaviour of kampung residents amid the neighbourhood transformation. The study focuses on the formation and distribution of interaction spaces within kampung and the residents’ perception of the transitional space territoriality. This study was conducted qualitatively. The observations were conducted after afternoon prayer (Asr) and evening prayer (Maghrib). The data was collected from snapshots and using Global Positioning Systems (GPS), then imported into ArcGIS, and interviews were presented on emotion maps and narratives. The data were analysed with content and behaviour mapping approaches. This research found that territorial invasion can be defined as a local’s territorial behaviour for sustaining social space amid the kampung’s spatial transformation due to tourism. Hence, territoriality is not only related to the spatial modification to control a space. This research contributes to understanding architecture behaviour and policy making, especially in an urban village with tourism activities.
