Abstract: placebo gels were rubbed onto the skin in the same way as active treatments, we found that active treatments were significantly better than placebo. Creating double blind conditions in trials of counter irritants can be problematic as rubefacients irritate the skin whereas inactive placebos do not. Some studies allowed for this by removing the principle ingredient from the treatment, leaving a placebo vehicle containing some other potentially irritant ingredients. Although the number needed to treat for combin… Show more

“…Moreover, approximately 76% of participants reported perpetration (n = 114) and 70% (n = 105) victimization of intimate partner violence. Our estimates align with past estimates of emerging adults who have experienced intimate partner violence in the United States, which have ranged from 25% to 75% (HalpernMeekin, Manning, Giordano, & Longmore, 2013;Renner & Whitney, 2012;Rennison & Welchans, 2000;Whitaker, Haileyesus, Swahn, & Saltzman, 2007). Table 2 presents the fit indices and inferential test statistics for one-, two-, three-, four-, and five-class solutions.…”

“…Women with income below $10,000 annually report rates of domestic violence that are five times greater than those with annual income greater than $30,000 (BJS, 1994). In addition, black women are at significantly greater risk of violence and conditional on violence are subject to more severe attacks (Rennison and Welchans, 2000). Also at greater risk are young women between the ages of 20 and 34, corresponding to the peak child-bearing years.…”

Over this period "the number of male victims of intimate partner homicide fell an average 4% per year and the number of female victims fell an average 1% (Rennison and Welchans, 2000).…”
