Intralymphatic bcg in the treatment of gynecologic malignancies.A phase I study

Abstract: Thirteen patients with a variety of advanced gynecologic malignancies were administered BCG via the dorsal lymphatics of the lower extremity in addition to standard accepted forms of therapy. Prolonged febrile courses, lymphangitis and suppurative adenitis were observed along the lymphatic pathway of the injected lower limbs. There was no correlation between reaction to a standard anergy panel and survival. There was also no correlation between reaction to a standard anergy panel and the inflammatory response … Show more

“…Since the regional lymph nodes are involved in the initiation of systemic immunity, immunomodulators may act more efficiently as immunogens when administered intra¬ lymphatically (11)(12)(13)(14)(15). Although the intralymphatic route has been used in (1)(2)(3)(4). This study was undertaken to examine a nonspecific immunostimulant BCG in a tumor system analogous to the cancer patient with measurable tumor burden and lymph node metastasis.…”

“…BCG was selected in this study due to its common usage in humans and our previous experimental and clinical experience with intralymphatic BCG (3,16). The V2 carcinoma in NZW rabbits was used in this study to represent a lymph node metastasizing solid tumor that kills via distant metastasis.…”

“…The routes and methods of administration include oral [5], IV [16,18], intralymphatic [25], intratumoral [28,29,30,32], ID [3], Heafgun technique [33], the tine plate method [28], scarification [3,7,8,9], and intrapleural [23,24]. 1 Several routes, schedules, doses and sources of BCG have been used in these various clinical trials.…”
