Intratumor distribution and test–retest comparisons of physiological parameters quantified by dynamic contrast‐enhanced MRI in rat U251 glioma

Abstract: The distribution of dynamic contrast enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) parametric estimates in a rat U251 glioma model was analyzed. Using Magnevist as contrast agent (CA), 17 nude rats implanted with U251 cerebral glioma were studied by DCE-MRI twice in a 24 h interval. A data-driven analysis selected one of three models to estimate either: 1) CA plasma volume (vp), 2) vp and forward volume transfer constant (Ktrans; or 3) vp, Ktrans, and interstitial volume fraction (ve), constituting Models 1, 2 and 3, respectively. C… Show more

“…Double gradient echo sequences have also been used in other studies for T 2 * correction [17,24,25]. Multiple gradient echo sequences with more than two echoes may help to improve the T 2 * estimation accuracy further and to also reduce the sensitivity to the selected TE, as shown by Zhuo et al [26], although acquisition of multiple gradient echoes decreases the temporal resolution, which is not favorable for contrast kinetic model analysis in general.…”

“…The associated Pearson's r value and P value correspond to the colors of the solid lines. dynamic imaging on small-bore animal magnets (range: 6.3-9.4T) using a similar temporal resolution (range: 2-4.8 s) has spanned from 0.27 Â 0.27 Â 1.5 to 0.33 Â 0.33 Â 2.0 mm 3 (27,29,36,55). The similarity in acquisition parameters without sacrificing apparent image quality between the study described herein and investigations conducted at higher field strengths supports the assertion by Pillai et al that specialized coils may allow greater accessibility to animal-based MRI studies at centers without animal scanners (33).…”

“…(31)] and Logan et al . analyses (25, 29, 30) of DCE-MRI data, using a model-selection paradigm (2022) to estimate the plasma volume fraction (v p ), forward volumetric transfer constant (K trans ), interstitial volume fraction (v e ) and extracellular volume fraction (V D ); and 3. DWI to estimate ADC.…”
