Intrinsic spin-orbit coupling in superconductingδ-doped SrTiO3heterostructures

Abstract: We report the violation of the Pauli limit due to intrinsic spin-orbit coupling in SrTiO3 heterostructures. Via selective doping down to a few nanometers, a two-dimensional superconductor is formed, geometrically suppressing orbital pair-breaking. The spin-orbit scattering is exposed by the robust in-plane superconducting upper critical field, exceeding the Pauli limit by a factor of 4. Transport scattering times several orders of magnitude higher than for conventional thin film superconductors enables a new r… Show more

“…The violations of the Pauli paramagnetic limit at both (001) LAO/STO interfaces and other STO based 2D superconductors are very common, 7,43,44 especially when the superconductive thickness < 20 nm. Similarly, the paramagnetic limit seems to be exceeded by a factor of three at (110) LAO/STO samples here.…”

“…In analogy with the ρ(T ) plot, we interpolate in the intermediate regime where D Q ∼ 1 to obtain a smooth matching of the two limits of Eq. (53). For the chosen parameters, the insulating curves [green (πK 0 = 1.5) and blue (πK 0 = 1.4)] show a monotonically increasing behavior.…”

“…The effects of Rashba spin splitting on superconducting-state properties have been discussed for the SrTiO 3 /LaAlO 3 interface [33] and Nb-doped SrTiO 3 heterostructures [34]. For both systems, H c exceeding H P by a factor of 4 was reported.…”
