Introducing JAMA Network Insights in JAMA Dermatology

Abstract

In this issue of JAMA Dermatology, we present the first in a new series for this journal: JAMA Network Insights. Dermatologists are frequently faced with clinical scenarios for which there may not be an extensive evidence base or clinical guidelines to aid in clinical decisionmaking. JAMA Network Insight articles aim to combine critical appraisal of the available literature with expert judgement to provide practical approaches for managing common scenarios encountered in the clinic. An additional aim is to inform readers of key developments in dermatology, including approaches to disease assessment and clinical science. This article type is already available in other JAMA Network journals to provide concise summaries on how to approach common or challenging clinical questions. 1,2 Each JAMA Network Insight article will briefly frame a clinical question, describe relevant pathophysiologic mechanisms, and focus on updates specific to clinical care. These articles will offer expert insights into nuanced clinical scenarios and discuss controversies in the literature, particularly when the clinical evidence base is limited or conflicting. Starting with 2 articles per year, we plan to publish JAMA Network Insight articles written by expert clinicians who are recognized as national and international thought leaders on their subject.
