“…Following the halcyon days of John Ladman, J‐P's wisdom was shared with EIC's Roger Markwald, co‐author Kurt Albertine, and co‐author Heather Smith. J‐P's scholarly excellence has also regularly graced the pages of our journal (he has been a frequent author reporting his own novel science and served as Guest Editor for Anatomical Record Special and Thematic Paper Issues; e.g., Abdellah et al, 2018; Adriaensen et al, 2003; Alpaerts et al, 2015; Bagyanszki et al, 2010; Geerts et al, 2008; Klimaschewski & Timmermans, 2019; Scheuerman et al, 1989; Timmermans & Geertz, 2005; Timmermans, Hens, & Adriaensen, 2001; Timmermans, Markwald, & Litke, 2001, 2003; Van Remoortel et al, 2023). We are most appreciative of his heartfelt efforts and support.…”

“…The last few years alone have brought forth a plethora of cutting‐edge neuroanatomical science reported in four Special and Thematic Papers Issues in The Anatomical Record . In 2019, Lars Klimaschewski of the University of Innsbruck, Austria, under the careful and diligent eye of our European Associate Editor, Jean‐Pierre Timmermans of the University of Antwerp, put together a Thematic Papers Issue entitled “Advances in our Understanding of the Morphological Response to Injury in the Peripheral Nervous System,” selected from presentations at the inaugural Alpine Anatomical Research Conference held in Obergurgl, Austria in 2018 (Klimaschewski and Timmermans, ; Laitman and Albertine, ). Appropriately, and reflecting this special issue on the Spanish School, the other three issues were all birthed and largely populated by Spanish neurobiologists and all overseen by our tapas‐loving (did we tell you about Spanish food?)…”

“…). This current Thematic Issue is comprised of state‐of‐the‐art reviews on human nerve anatomy, axon‐induced neuroplasticity and regeneration, and enteric nervous system biology, most coming from the March 2018 inaugural Alpine Anatomical Research Conference held in Obergurgl, Austria (Klimaschewski and Timmermans, , this issue). This issue serves as a follow‐up to the 2018 Thematic Papers Issue entitled, “Study of Peripheral Nerve Repair and Regeneration,” Guest Edited by Professor Xavier Navarro and Associate Editor Jose‐Luis Trejo (Laitman and Albertine, ; Navarro et al, ; Trejo, ).…”
