Investigation of Factors That Have Affected the Outcomes of Road Traffic Accidents on Lithuanian Roads

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the possibility for predicting the outcome of a road traffic accident concerning the traffic environment, personal traits of the traffic participant and the vehicle, i.e. aiming to answer the question whether specific values of the factors analysed to increase the likelihood of a fatal accident. The logistic regression model that allows identifying the relationship between the dependent and independent variables were used in the research. Other methods for describing and… Show more

“…For example, comparing transport accident patterns in cities of Lithuania and Sweden [38], the authors do not mention the WVA problem, though it is really threatening [24]. Other papers analyze driver-related aspects [39] and/or temporal and meteorological factors but not in the WVA context [40].…”

“…However, based on the systematised data by International Traffic Safety and Analysis Group (IRTAD), the rate of reduction in road deaths has slowed from 3.3% in the period 1998-2008 to 2.3% in 2008-2018. Miscellaneous accident causation requires all possible road safety activities, where constructional vehicle safety is usually placed in third place after road user behaviour and road infrastructure safety [3][4][5]. Nevertheless, all effective measures to reduce accident risk are meaningful.…”
