Ionic Liquids Endowed with Novel Hybrid Anions for Supercapacitors

Abstract: The synthesis of a novel class of ionic liquids (ILs) with sulfimide-type anions is presented herein. [Py 14 ][PTSNTF] ( N -butyl- N -methylpyrrolidinium p -tosyl(trifluoromethyl)sulfonimide) shows that the maximal electrochemical window is as high as 5.3 V, higher than that of most reported ILs. In addition, thermogravimetry analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and the flammability test were also carried out fo… Show more

“…5b shows the electrostatic potential (ESP) and the distribution of the Mulliken charge. 27 It is found that the Mulliken charges of the DES changed noticeably before and after the HCl participation. By interacting with HCl, the Mulliken charge of the nitrogen atom (–NC–) shifted from −0.190 to 0.145, and the chlorine atom was also greatly affected and became more negative (−0.178 vs. −0.811).…”

“…For instance, Xu et al increased electrode wettability and subsequently reduced internal resistance by adding anionic surfactant ILs [C 4 C 1 pyr][AOT] to the [C 3 C 1 pyr][Tf 2 N] electrolyte. Xiong et al synthesized a novel mixed anion, [PTSNTF] − ( p -tosyl(trifluoromethyl)sulfonimide), which exhibited an electrochemical window of up to 5.3 V when combined with the typical ion [C 4 C 1 pyr] + in the electrolyte. In summary, these studies demonstrate the potential of employing new functional groups or novel ionic liquids to optimize the performance of EDLCs in terms of internal resistance and electrochemical voltage.…”
