IoT Architecture for Urban Data-Centric Services and Applications

Abstract: In this work, we describe an urban Internet of Things (IoT) architecture, grounded in big data patterns and focused on the needs of cities and their key stakeholders. First, the architecture of the dedicated platform USE4IoT (Urban Service Environment for the Internet of Things), which gathers and processes urban big data and extends the Lambda architecture, is proposed. We describe how the platform was used to make IoT an enabling technology for intelligent transport planning. Moreover, key data processing co… Show more

“…Finally, note that broker-based PIS middleware protocols such as AMQP and MQTT are topic-based and cloud-based, but without complex event processing or streaming. This is precisely the role of recent works such the one of Luckner et al (2014), and of industrial platforms such as AWS IoT Core , Google IoT Core , Microsoft Azure IoT Hub , and FIWARE , to add complex event processing and streaming to publish-subscribe middleware standards. These platforms are proof, if any were needed, of the interest of major operators in working to integrate scalability into PIS middleware.…”

“…From an architectural perspective, an urban IoT architecture focused on the needs of cities and their stakeholders have been described by Luckner et al 14 They developed a platform for intelligent transport planning using several data sources (e.g., public transport GPS, timetables, and Twitter feeds).…”

“…In this case, many network security applications, such as Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), have been deployed in the IoV backbone network to prevent it from kinds of threats. Besides, anomaly detection techniques are leveraged to implement anomaly-based intrusion detection, and detect impossible damages in networks [8,13,30]. In practice, both intrusion and anomaly detection systems need end-to-end network traic data as an input parameter to carry out the corresponding functions.…”
