This paper proposes the use of the AHP-Gaussian method to support the selection of a smart sensor installation for an electric motor used in an escalator in a subway station. The AHP-Gaussian methodology utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) framework and is highlighted for its ability to save the decision maker’s cognitive effort in assigning weights to criteria. Seven criteria were defined for the sensor selection: temperature range, vibration range, weight, communication distance, maximum electric power, data traffic speed, and acquisition cost. Four smart sensors were considered as alternatives. The results of the analysis showed that the most appropriate sensor was the ABB Ability smart sensor, which scored the highest in the AHP-Gaussian analysis. In addition, this sensor could detect any abnormalities in the equipment’s operation, enabling timely maintenance and preventing potential failures. The proposed AHP-Gaussian method proved to be an effective approach for selecting a smart sensor for an electric motor used in an escalator in a subway station. The selected sensor was reliable, accurate, and cost-effective, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.

A smart sensor is a sensor with information processing functions. It is the product of the combination of sensor integration and a microprocessor. It has the characteristics of intelligence, networking and high precision. It has been widely used in aerospace, aviation, intelligent transportation, industrial control and medical and health care. However, in some specific application scenarios with high data security requirements and low transmission delay, such as environmental detection, transportation, etc., smart sensors have three obvious shortcomings. First, the data transmission delay is high. Second, the confidentiality and integrity of the data transmission process cannot be effectively guaranteed. Third, centralized data storage is easily leaked and tampered with by malicious users and semi-trusted administrators. Therefore, a 5G-based blockchain smart sensor 5G-BSS was designed. 5G-BSS has three innovation points. First, the 5G communication module enables the smart sensor 5G-BSS. The 5G communication module is integrated into the smart sensor 5G-BSS to reduce the delay of data transmission and improve the speed and reliability of data transmission. Second, cryptographic algorithms enable the smart sensor 5G-BSS. The data encryption module of the smart sensor 5G-BSS improves the confidentiality and integrity of the data transmission process. Third, blockchain empowers the smart sensor 5G-BSS. The blockchain client is integrated into the smart sensor 5G-BSS to ensure the centralized storage of data and prevent data leakage and tampering by semi-trusted administrators. The operation process of the hardware and software architecture is described in detail and tested on the Fisco-Bcos. The experimental results show that 5G-BSS not only has fast data transmission speed but also can effectively guarantee the integrity, confidentiality and availability of data. 5G-BSS is suitable for application scenarios with high requirements for data security and data transmission, such as environmental monitoring, intelligent transportation, autonomous driving, etc.

The current COVID-19 pandemic impacted globally and resulted one hundred million cases with almost two and half million death to-date. The concerns of further spread of the virus has caused the global economy to a halt when most countries globally implementing movement control. Recent approved vaccines developed by multiple fronts has shed some hoped for the recovery of the human activities back to pre-pandemic state. For Malaysia, the government has procured the vaccine from six suppliers and each vaccine require proper temperature monitoring to ensure the safety and the efficacy of the vaccines during transportation and distribution process. Effective vaccine Cold Chain Logistics (CCL) management will be required precise coordination and cooperation across multiple parties to ensure the quality of the vaccines which require temperature monitoring, distribution of records for traceability. Furthermore, the CCL process continuity is becoming critical from the handover point at Malaysia point of receipt from the manufacturer and further distribution from central storage to the two hundred vaccination center across the country. Key concerns will be the vaccines’ CCL process for remote areas in Malaysia. This paper will describe the architecture required to integrate IoT and Blockchain into the CCL management system to monitor the temperature of insulated container or cooler box. While this project may not be able to cover all the parameters it will serve an indication of the required system engineering consideration for the IoT and Blockchain application for the vaccine CCL management
