“…Previous studies on this topic refer mainly to interpersonal problems as assessed by IIP (Lech et al, 2008;Nicolò et al, 2011;Normann-Eide et al, 2013;Solbakken, Hansen, Havik, & Monsen, 2011). “…In a previous study of the present sample, we found that lower levels of AC were associated with more interpersonal and self-esteem problems when measured cross-sectionally at two points of time, while there was no significant association between AC and general symptom distress [ 46 ]. The present study is an extension of our previous study and aimed to analyze changes in AC and its association with clinical status.…”

“…The second main finding of the present study was how clinical status at follow-up were related to the improvement in AC. Cross-sectional studies on AC have reported an association between the level of AC and severity of the psychopathology, i.e., self-esteem and interpersonal problems [ 35 , 44 – 46 ]. The present results complement these studies, and to our knowledge this is the first study to report that improved AC is related to follow-up measures of self-relatedness and interpersonal function, which are some of the core markers of maladaptive personality functioning.…”

“…Consciousness construct and assessed by use of the semi-structured Affect Consciousness Interview (Monsen, Monsen, Hansen, & Solbakken, 2008). Numerous studies have indicated the usefulness of this conceptualization at both clinical and theoretical levels (e.g., Monsen, Ødegård, & Melgård, 1989;Monsen et al, 1996;Monsen & Monsen, 1999;McCullough Vaillant, 1997;Falkenström, Solbakken, Möller, Lech, Sandell, & Holmqvist, 2014;Gude, Monsen, & Hoffart, 2001;Normann-Eide, Johansen, Normann-Eide, Egeland, & Wilberg, 2013;Waller & Scheidt, 2004;Holmqvist, 2008;Lech, Andersson, & Holmqvist, 2008;Choi-Kain & Gunderson, 2008;Solbakken et al, 2011b;Solbakken et al, 2012;Taarvig, Solbakken, Grova, & Monsen, 2014).…”
