Is oral narrative ability a reliable predictor of reading competence?

Abstract: This paper presents a summary of findings from a study of primary school children aimed at investigating if narrative skill could predict their reading ability. The results indicate that this is so, suggesting that emphasis needs to be placed on narrative development.
