Is Ozone a Valid Adjuvant Therapy for Periodontitis and Peri-Implantitis? A Systematic Review

Abstract: Introduction: Ozone is a naturally occurring unstable compound with three oxygen atoms that generally transforms into an oxygen molecule, releasing one oxygen atom. This feature has been exploited in dentistry for numerous applications, including for periodontal diseases and peri-implantitis. Methods: This review was performed in relation to the PRISMA flow chart and was annotated in the PROSPERO register. PICO questions were used as research questions. “…Mandibular flexure may affect the precision of the many processes of various prosthetic treatments, especially fixed ones, which might result in failure. It can result in peri-implant bone resorption, distortion of the impression, improper fit of removable or fixed prostheses, fracture of implant screws or porcelain prosthetic crowns, and chewing pain by altering the distribution of masticatory stresses and increasing their intensity in implant-supported prostheses, abutments, and surrounding bone [ 94 ]. Consequently, it is essential to implement therapeutic modifications and preventive measures to reduce the negative effects of this phenomenon on oral rehabilitations [ 23 , 27 , 95 , 96 , 97 , 98 , 99 , 100 , 101 , 102 , 103 ].…”

“…The use of home adjuvant products, such as ozonated gels, against different species of candida and the use of probiotics and postbiotics to reduce the incidence of oral dysbiosis and to improve the healing process is proposed by Srcibante groups. All these professional and home-based approaches can improve the quality of patients' home hygiene methods [117][118][119].…”
