“…Nitschke et al (2009), as well as Mokros et al (2012), noted, for instance, that extreme sexual behaviors, such as mutilation of sexual and nonsexual parts of the victim’s body as well as the insertion of foreign objects into the victim’s bodily orifices, are especially uncommon. These findings were confirmed by Longpré et al (2020) who found that both anal and vaginal insertion of objects, as well as torture, are sexual behaviors associated with the severe end of the sadistic continuum. Although these studies proposed and provided some evidence consistent with a continuous concept of sexual sadism, they did not provide clear answers as to which sadistic behaviors are associated with a lethal outcome in sexual crimes.…”

“…As to the significant factors associated with the expression of sexual sadism, our findings indicated that when individuals engaged in gratuitous violence toward or wounding of the victim, inserted foreign objects into victims’ bodily orifices, and mutilated sexual and nonsexual parts of the victims’ bodies, a lethal outcome was more likely to occur. These results can be compared with previous studies that identified such behaviors as being the least commonly observed and associated with the severe end of the agonistic continuum (Longpré et al, 2020; Mokros et al, 2012; Nitschke et al, 2009). While these studies did not formally associate these behaviors with a lethal outcome, they assumed that they constituted the most severe sadistic behaviors observed.…”
