Ischemia-Modified Albumin: Could It Be a New Oxidative Stress Biomarker for Colorectal Carcinoma?

Abstract: Background/AimsAn impaired oxidative/antioxidative status plays an important role in the pathogenesis of many diseases, including cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of the novel marker ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) and albumin-adjusted IMA (Adj-IMA) in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and look for the associations of these with the total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), and oxidative stress index (OSI).MethodsForty patients with CRC (19 females and 21 males; me… Show more

“…İMA gastrik, prostat, yumuşak doku kanserleri ve nöroblastomlarda artmıştır. Fidan ve arkadaş-larının mide kanserli hastalarda, Stachowicz-Stencel ve arkadaşlarının nöroblastoma ve sarkomalı çocuklarda, Ellidag ve arkadaşlarının mesane kanserli ve kolorektal kanserli hastalarda yaptıkları çalışmalarında İMA'nın artmış olduğu gösteril-di (10,(45)(46)(47) .…”

“…17 This is positive in a variety of conditions giving rise to tissue ischemia. 18,19 Our study highlights the importance of evaluating patient populations for testing as more false positive elevations in ischemia modified al-(STEMI) was diagnosed if there was ST segment elevation >0.1mv in 2 or more contiguous leads with cardiac troponin (cTnT) >0.05ng/ml; non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) was diagnosed if EKG did not show ST-segment elevation and troponin (cTnT) was >0.05ng/ml. Patients were classified as atypical chest pain when i) a non-cardiac mechanism was confirmed as the cause of chest pain ii) troponin (cTnT) results were negative on serial sampling ( three samples six hours apart) iii) neither Electrocardiogram (EKG) changes nor evidence of coronary artery disease were present.…”

“…The results were expressed in absorbance units (ABSU). The intra-assay CV for 2 different levels (mean±SD: 0.484±0.006 and 0.647±0.006) was 1.23% and 0.92%, respectively [15]. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 20.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) was used for all statistical analyses.…”
