Isolation and characterization of mastitis pathogens and milk composition changes in Murrah buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) during winter season

Abstract: Present investigation was carried out to study the prevalence of bacterial pathogens in clinical and subclinical mastitis in buffaloes during winter season. A total of 118 Murrah buffaloes were screened using California mastitis Test (CMT). Milk samples were collected and analyzed for fat, protein, lactose, SNF, pH, Electrical conductivity (EC) and Somatic Cell Counts (SCC). Out of 118 milk samples, 60 samples (50.84%) were negative for CMT and 58 samples (49.15%) were detected positive for mastitis incidence.… Show more

“…76, November 26, 2018 (7) , of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), and only the State of São Paulo has specific limits for buffalo milk, set forth in Resolution SAA -03 (19) . One of the parameters for evaluating the microbiological quality of milk is SCC, which can be high in cases of mastitis, an inflammation of the mammary gland that can also bring about other changes in milk composition, such as fat, protein and lactose, leading to a reduction of these components (20) . With the exception of the months of July and September, in the other months, the results obtained for SCC were below that established by NI 76 -5.0 x 10 5 cells/mL (7) .…”

“…Um dos parâmetros para avaliação da qualidade microbiológica do leite é a CCS, que pode ser elevada em casos de mastite, uma inflamação na glândula mamária que pode promover também outras alterações na composição do leite, como a gordura, proteína e lactose, levando à redução destes componentes (20) . Com exceção dos meses de julho e setembro, nos demais meses os resultados obtidos para CCS apresentaram-se abaixo do estabelecido pela IN 76 de 5.0 x10 5 cél./mL (7) .…”
