Isolation and Identification of Naturally Occurring Larvicidal Compound Isolated From Zingiber Zerumbet (L).J.E. Smith.

Abstract: Objective: A naturally occurring larvicidal compound is an alternative to eradication of Aedes aegypti larvae. This compound is toxic to larvae but relatively safe for human. Rhizome of Lempuyang gajah (Zingiber zerumbet (L.) J. E. Smith) has been used traditionally to prevent mosquito bites. An initial study indicated that petroleum ether (PE) soluble fraction of the methanol (MeOH) extract of Z. zerumbet was toxic against larvae lethal concentration (LC 50 ), 67.01±2.35 versus 153.57±4.01 ppm (MeOH ext.). Th… Show more

“…The bioassay-guided fractionation method has been used previously to test the anticancer activity of compounds isolated from N. indicum leaves (Wahyuningsih et al, 2017), detecting the presence of the active fraction of T. diversifolia (Hemsley) A Gray which has antiplasmodial potential (Syarif et al, 2018). This method is widely used in the early stages of isolated compounds from natural materials, such as tagitinin C from T. diversifolia (Wahyuningsih et al, 2015) and Zerumbone from Zingiber zerumbet (Murini et al, 2018).…”

“…This bioassayguided fractionation method had been applied to detect the presence of active fraction from T. diversifolia (Hemsley) A Gray which has antiplasmodial potential [13]. İt has been widely used for the initial stages in the isolation of compounds from natural materials, such as the compound tagitinin C from T. diversifolia [14] and Zerumbone from Zingiber zerumbet [15].…”
