Isolation of Flavonoid Compound and Antioxidant Activity of Salix tetrasperma Roxb. Leaves

Abstract: Salix Tetrasperma Roxb. is a plant that found in Indonesia were used as traditional medicine such as diabetes and wound healing. In this study, a flavonoid compound of the ethyl acetate extract of Salix tetrasperma Roxb. leaves was isolated by chromatography technique and the antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH assay. The isolation led to obtain 5,7-dihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavone based on NMR spectra. The ethyl acetate extract exhibited the highest antioxidant activity with the IC 50 is 65.89 µg/mL. This … Show more

“…The decrease in the H/L ratio in this study was expected to be due to the activity of the phytochemical content of the Salix plant leaf extract. In Salix plants, there are bioactive compounds that act as antioxidants, including derivatives of phenolic compounds and flavonoids [ 28 , 30 , 31 , 38 40 ]. Various types of flavonoids and their derivatives are beneficial in birds experiencing chronic heat stress and become less effective when given to birds that are not exposed to heat [ 41 ].…”

“…The administration of Salix extract can stimulate the expression of antioxidant enzymes and prevent the formation of oxidative stress [ 28 , 29 ]. Phytochemical test results from various parts of the Salix tetrasperma plant detected the content of various secondary bioactive compounds such as catechol, salicin and their derivatives, flavonoids, phenolics, terpenoids, saponins, and steroids [ 28 , 30 , 31 ]. It is suspected that the administration of Salix extract can affect the formation of AQP2 and HSP70 compounds.…”

“…The antioxidant activity was carried out by DPPH assay [32] with modifications. A total of 1 mL of 0.02 mM DPPH solution was added to a test tube containing 3 mL of the tested sample dissolved with MeOH-Acetone (9.5:0.5) in several concentrations (0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4 mg/L).…”

“…This plant has excellent sources of antioxidant agents. Reported by Januarti et al (2019), a flavonoid compound of the ethyl acetate extract of Salix tetrasperma Roxb was isolated by chromatography technique obtained 5,7-dihydroxy-3'-methoxy flavone based on NMR spectra. While antioxidant activity determined by DPPH assay obtained 5,7-dihydroxy-3'-methoxy flavone based on NMR spectra.…”
