Issues of photovoltaic installation size choice for a hard coal mine

Abstract: Poland is the leader in hard coal mining in the European Union and in generation of electricity on this basis, it is related also to low generation of energy from renewable energy sources, in particular photovoltaic installations. The paper analyses the potential of PV installations application for the needs of a selected hard coal mine from the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. Using the hourly data on its electricity consumption in 2018 various sizes of PV installations were selected, a simple payback period was ca… Show more

“…With a low power of the installation, the self-consumption of the produced energy will occur practically always [54] while with the rescaling of the installation, the degree of self-consumption of electricity decreases and, at the same time, the self-sufficiency increases [18,55]. Apart from the power of the installation, the very degree of correlation of the profile course, while maintaining the conditions for which they were determined, remains approximately constant.…”

“…This approach was also chosen for its utility in a wide range of potentially installed PV capacities. With the low power of the installation, self-consumption of the produced energy will almost always occur [24], while, with the rescaling of the installation, the degree of self-consumption of electricity decreases and, at the same time, the self-sufficiency increases [29,30]. Regardless of the power of installation, the degree of correlation of the profile, while maintaining the conditions for which they were drawn, remains approximately constant.…”
