Jet shapes with the broadening axis

Abstract: Broadening is a classic jet observable that probes the transverse momentum structure of jets. Traditionally, broadening has been measured with respect to the thrust axis, which is aligned along the (hemisphere) jet momentum to minimize the vector sum of transverse momentum within a jet. In this paper, we advocate measuring broadening with respect to the "broadening axis", which is the direction that minimizes the scalar sum of transverse momentum within a jet. This approach eliminates many of the calculational… Show more

“…Throughout this section, all jets are defined using the e + e − anti-k T clustering metric [93,99] with the Winner-Take-All (WTA) recombination scheme [72,100]. To focus on the aspects of the factorization relevant to the jet substructure, we will present the factorization theorems for the specific case of e + e − → qq.…”

“…Inter-jet radiation and in particular its response to the presence of a jet veto has also received a lot of attention both from the theoretical [53][54][55][56][57][58][59] and experimental [60][61][62][63] communities, primarily in the context of Higgs-boson studies [64][65][66][67][68][69][70]. All-order analytical calculations have been performed recently for an increasing number of jet-substructure observables, including jet masses [71][72][73][74], other jet shapes [75][76][77][78][79], sub-jet multiplicity [80] and grooming algorithms [81][82][83]. Recently, there has also been substantial progress towards achieving NNLL accuracy in threshold resummation for dijet production [84,85].…”
