Joint Cost Estimation Approach for Service Provider Legacy Network Migration to Unified Software Defined IPv6 Network

Abstract: Service providers world-wide are facing challenges of network operations, management, security, quality of service and address deficiency problem while the current world network still run with the existing legacy system. The issues of address shortage including the problems of legacy IPv4 address have been resolved with the advancement on IPv6 addresses. Similarly the increasing complexities of networking management have also been addressed by the advancement on Software Defined Network (SDN). For the future s… Show more

“…This approach is focused on an IPv6‐only network migration over an autonomous system (AS) while an ISP might have more than one ASes. Dawadi BR et al 9 presented a preliminary analysis on migration cost optimization by joint network migration for service providers. Nikkhah M 17 presented an incremental adoption of IPv6 migration from the perspectives of different service providers like ISPs, content providers, and content users.…”

“…Worldwide IPv6 adoption rate is crossing 24% while its growth in the recent years is exponential 27,28 . In this regard, being correlated technologies, we modeled the joint migration and its benefits in migration cost optimization for service providers towards incremental deployment to hybrid SDN and dual stack IPv6 network in our previous works 9 . This establishes the cost effectiveness of migrating existing legacy IPv4 network into SoDIP6 network.…”
