JOINT MAINTENANCE AND SPARE COMPONENT PROVISIONING POLICY FOR k-OUT-OF-n SYSTEMS

Abstract: This study develops an analytic framework for joint modeling of age-based preventive maintenance and (s, Q) spare component provisioning policy for k-out-of-n:G systems with i.i.d. nonrepairable components. We assume that during system maintenance, instead of discarding the whole system, only failed components are replaced by spares if the on-handspares are sufficient. The objective is to determine a proper preventive maintenance interval and the ordering parameters to minimize the undiscounted long run averag… Show more

“…Considering both condition-based maintenance and block replacement policies, they obtained the optimal value for the variables to achieve the required level of availability at minimum cost. Chen et al (2013) construct a joint model for a k-out-of-n system. They assume that the components are non-repairable with constant failure rate.…”

“…Majority of related papers focus on system availability, either separately (Fawzi and Hawkes (1991), and Chakravarthy and Gómez-Corral (2009)) Chen et al (2013), and Srivastava et al (1988)). Obtaining jointly the combination of inspection interval, reorder interval, periodic order-up-to level and emergency order-up-to level such that the total cost is minimized, is novelty for a k-out-of-n system.…”
