K-mixed strategy: A new redundancy strategy for reliability problems

Abstract: This article presents a new redundancy strategy for system reliability optimization. The proposed strategy is a general form of a recently introduced strategy called ''Mixed Strategy.'' Adding parallel redundant component is a common approach in order to improve the reliability of a specific system. This approach is known as redundancy allocation problem. The redundancy allocation problem is a challenging issue for many researchers which has been subjected to investigation in this study. Generally, in the redu… Show more

“…A k-mixed redundancy strategy has a similar procedure to a mixed strategy, with the difference that one idle component engages in the subsystem, if possible, whenever an operating component fails. 37 As switches may fail, the k-mixed redundancy strategy is expected to outperform the other ones by giving a longer time to repair or replace the failed switch. Figure 5 represents the k-mix redundancy strategy.…”

“…efficient estimates). Since standby, mixed, and k-mixed redundancy strategies are complex 37 and the components have a complex interaction with random decision-making variables, no closed-form analytical equations have been proposed for accuracy system reliability assessment. Previous methods sought to perform lower bound maximization on the problem Lagrangian.…”

“…Up until now, different redundancy strategies including active, standby, mixed 10 and K-mixed 11,12 have been introduced for a subsystem. Active, standby and mixed redundancy strategies are considered in this study.…”

“…Van Gemund and Reijns 8 studied the reliability of K -out-of- N system with a single cold standby component and Eryilmaz 9 studied the system with a single warm standby component. Besides, Peiravi et al 10 extended the mixed strategy to K -mixed strategy in which K components are kept in active mode as long as possible. Zhai et al 11 used the multi-valued decision diagram (MDD) to evaluate the reliability of system with a series of cold standby components.…”
