Kaolin and Jasmonic acid improved cotton productivity under water stress conditions

Abstract: Drought is one of the most emerging threat that causes a severe reduction in cotton plant growth and development. Being cotton is a major cash crop has great threat to prevailing drought events in Pakistan. A field experiment was conducted in Kharif season 2018 at Research Area of MNS-University of Agriculture, Multan, Pakistan to assess the role of foliar applied kaolin and jasmonic acid on vegetative growth, gas exchange and reproductive traits of cotton under normal irrigated and artificial water deficit co… Show more

“…Dihydromyricetin exhibited anti-inflammatory, paroxysmal, hypotensive, and hypolipidemic effects [ 38 ]. Jasmonic acid is present at a high content in leaves and is often used as an endogenous growth regulator in higher plants [ 39 ]. Exploring the differences in metabolites in different plant tissues helps to identify the biochemical activities occurring in these tissues, which can promote the comprehensive utilization of P. quinquefolius .…”

“…Seed cotton yield is a crucial indicator of crop productivity and is often used to compare different varieties or growing conditions (Mudassir et al, 2021). Drought stress causes stunted growth, reduced leaf area, and smaller stems in plants, leading to reduced boll numbers and seeds produced (Nazim et al, 2021). The study results show a reduction in both plant growth and seed cotton yield in drought stress conditions.…”

“…These phytohormones intricately regulate a spectrum of physiological and biochemical processes that positively impact growth (Rivas‐San Vicente and Plasencia, 2011). Notably, they modulate chlorophyll fluorescence and seed germination dynamics (Sheteiwy et al, 2021), augment activities related to photosynthesis (Rivas‐San Vicente and Plasencia, 2011; Nazim et al, 2021) and stimulate the growth in both vegetative and reproductive plant organs (Ghorbel et al, 2021). Recent investigations by Hewedy et al (2023) further substantiate the affirmative influence of JA on plant growth.…”
